I really can't believe this movie got made. From what I understand this film was directed by Noel Marshall who was an executive producer on THE EXORCIST. While shooting in Africa, Marshall and his wife Tippi Hedren became inspired by the wildlife and so they decided to create the film ROAR. What's so insane about ROAR is that the film was shot with about 150 wild animals which included a large number of tigers and lions.

The film took 11 years to make and cost $17 million, only taking in $2 million when it was released in 1981. The trailer notes that about 70 cast and crew members were hurt during the filming, with injuries ranging from a broken leg to facial reconstructive surgery. Watching the trailer is extremely unsettling not to mention this "Tiger Attack" scene. ROAR would be the first and last film that Noel Marshall would direct (IMDB).

Drafthouse films have brought the film back for release in the US. For more info check out their site.
